Red Force Interaction in Situated Cognition
نویسنده
چکیده
Efforts to maximize the impact of network centric warfare (NCW) rely upon the effective integration of human and technological agents. Combat and command and control models must represent the entirety of a network-centric organization, including both humans and non-human components which comprise any complex system. The Dynamic Model of Situated Cognition (DMSC) was introduced by Miller and Shattuck in 2003 as a tool to help analyze this kind of complex system. The model has been applied in a variety of contexts to analyze military command and control and extended and applied to areas broader than its original use. This paper proposes to extend the model by explicitly adding Red force cognitive processes. With the addition of adversary forces, aspects of information warfare can be modeled. This includes actions against an enemy’s sensors and communications networks intended to reduce the quality of his information position and to disrupt the interaction between human and non-human elements of his command structure. Potential applications for the extension are proposed, including planning for and analyzing the effectiveness of 21 Century effects-based information operations against an enemy in both traditional and non-traditional conflicts.

Describing Situated Design Agents
Situated design agents are agents built using concepts from situated cognition. As situated design agents are constructive and interactive, we desire a formalism that starts with interaction and works backwards to what representations of structure, behaviour and function such interaction requires. This paper begins the process of providing a formal underpinning to agency that better corresponds...
متن کاملA Situated Cognition Perspective on Presence
During interaction with computer-based 3-D simulations like virtual reality, users may experience a sense of involvement called presence. Presence is commonly defined as the subjective feeling of "being there". We discuss the state of the art in this innovative research area and introduce a situated cognition perspective on presence. We argue that presence depends on the proper integration of a...
متن کاملThe Smuse: a Situated Cognition Approach to Interactive Music Composition
The evolution of computer-based music systems has gone from computer-aided composition, which transposed the traditional paradigms of music composition to the digital realm, to complex feedback systems that allow for rich multimodal interactions. Yet, a lot of interactive music systems still rely on outdated principles in the light of modern situated cognitive systems design. Moreover, the role...
متن کاملVirtual Environments Using Situated Computing Can Change What We Design
This paper presents the foundational concepts of situated computing: first-person interaction, constructive memory and situations. It then describes two classes of situated design that differ from other forms of designing: situated interaction design and situated artefact design.
متن کاملVirtual life eco-evolutionary experiments with situated agents
The growing interest in the biological roots of cognition leads to the crossfertilization between the fields of autonomous robotics and artificial life. This requires new tools that facilitate research on the interface between embodied cognitive science and theoretical biology. In this thesis, a model is presented that enables the simulation of evolving ecosystems of situated agents. This model...
